The Assembly Commission’s search for apprentices

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:00, Friday June 1st, 2012.

The National Assembly for Wales Commission is on the lookout for some new apprentices.

The Commission, which is the body responsible for the administration of the National Assembly, is offering four opportunities to youngsters aged between 16 and 24 in different parts of the legislature’s service areas.

Successful candidates would also learn as they earn with one day a fortnight dedicated to training and development which would result in a recognised qualification in Business and Administration.

“This is the first apprenticeship scheme to be run by the Assembly Commission and is a recognition of the potential of young people while helping them to develop skills and experience,” said Peter Black AM, Assembly Commissioner with responsibility for Assembly staff.

“For the successful candidates, this is a chance to work for an organisation at the very heart of democracy in Wales and an opportunity to see for themselves how the work of the Assembly affects everyone in Wales.”

“The Assembly Commission prides itself on being a positive employer which provides support and opportunities for its staff to develop and progress. That is why we were awarded an ‘Investors in People Gold Standard’ in 2010.”

Further to the four apprenticeships the Assembly Commission will also be offering graduate placements in the Assembly Business Directorate and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department.

Hooray, the National Assembly taking a leaf out of Plaid Cymru’s book. If Plaid could create 150 apprenticeships whilst running Caerphilly Council surely the Assembly could manage more than four.
