The owner of a Spar store in Trecenydd has been ordered to pay £515 after health inspectors took him to court on a series of food hygiene charges.
Tarjit Singh Sandhu, of Golygfa’r Eglwys, Pontypridd, admitted five charges relating to poor food hygiene at Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court on May 3.
Hygiene inspectors from Caerphilly County Borough Council visited the store, at 88 St Cenydd Road, on June 15 2011.
As the owner of a food business, Sandhu failed to keep the premises in a clean condition, failed to maintain equipment in a clean condition and in good working order, failed to provide hot water to the sink in the rear storage room and failed to provide hot water to the wash hand basin in the toilets.
He was also found selling two out-dated minced beef and onion Peter’s Pies.
In total he was fined £300, ordered to pay Caerphilly County Borough Council’s prosecution costs of £200 and a £15 victim surcharge.
The food prosecution follows the discovery of suspected illegal workers on the premises in February this year by the UK Border Agency.
A 27-year-old Indian man was found to be a failed asylum seeker while checks found a 37-year-old Indian man had overstayed his visa.
Was he also employing illegal immigrants in his shop?.
It would be nice if the people at the shop actually smiled. Perhaps I have usually called in on their off-days.
