Fashion and clothing students at Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys campus will display their hard-work at an end of term fashion show on June 14.

The show, which will be held at the campus theatre, will feature the work of 30 first and second year students.

It will be the biggest show he college has held for a decade.

VIPs will include university and fashion industry bosses as well as the students’ friends, parents and college lecturers.

The fashion show, organised by the students themselves, will call on the skills of other students from hair and beauty, media, lighting and photography courses.

The collections will be the culmination of work created by the students over the last two terms and represent various themes such as sporty, Savile Row, minimalism, Olympics and confectionery.

Second year fashion and clothing student, Harry Joe Dyke is taking the lead in coordinating the show which is expected to attract more than 150 guests.

Harry, 19, from Newport, said: “I’m really looking forward to the show and seeing the results of all the hard work. It is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate our talents in front of influential people in the fashion industry as well entertaining our friends and family.

“It is good practice to organise a show and make it as professional as possible. We have experimented with lots of styles and fabrics and I think the audience are in for an eye-catching display. I have started to apply for university to study fashion, so the show will boost my portfolio and improve my prospects.”

Natalie Thomas, fashion and clothing lecturer at Coleg Gwent, added: “There has been a great deal of dedication from the students in organising the show. Hosting these events provides the students with the opportunity to showcase their work in a more professional setting and gain confidence from a wider audience seeing their designs.

“The students have attended University of Wales Newport fashion shows and picked up plenty of tips on how to put on a great spectacle.

“They have all understood the briefs that were given throughout the course and as a result have created very impressive designs. As well as a chance to progress onto university, there may also be commercial opportunities for the students, if people want to buy the garments. I know the show will be a huge success.”
