Caerphilly Business Forum blog: New chair looks to launch of 2012 awards

News, Opinion | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:34, Thursday June 14th, 2012.

In his first column for Caerphilly Observer, Caerphilly Business Forum’s new chair Tony Sheehan looks towards the launch of the forum’s annual awards next week.

I could hardly have taken the reins at a busier time but having been elected to Chair Caerphilly Business Forum at the end of May, I’ve actually been able to hit the ground running.

This is largely thanks to the sterling work of the previous board and officers who were chaired by Andrew Diplock, of UES Energy, and the various teams they have in place.

And thanks to their efforts, we’re nearly all set for the launch of the 2012 Caerphilly Business Forum Awards, at Llancaiach Fawr Manor near Nelson on Tuesday June 19. Nearly that is apart from me. Not realising I would be chair, I’d long ago booked my holiday which I now find clashes with the launch. Luckily Andrew, who’s stayed on as vice chair, will take my place.

This year’s launch event is sponsored by Excellence IT, who provide IT support services to businesses throughout South Wales since 2002 and are based in Bedwas. I’m especially pleased to see them on board as sponsors for the first time as we are constantly reaching out to find new blood to ensure we continue to grow.

On their part, they’re celebrating their tenth anniversary and, as an established business, are keen to give something back to the community in which they’re based. I’m sure they will find it rewarding. The forum’s members are very supportive of each other and we all recognise that without the involvement of businesses like Excellence IT, nothing happens.

The launch itself attracted more than 70 members and non-members last year and we’re hoping it will be as successful this time.

We will be announcing some significant changes to this year’s awards with a view to capitalising on the excellent momentum gathered in recent years. It’s a free event with registration at 7.30am followed by the launch at 8am and a breakfast and networking opportunity at 8.30am. So please come and support us.

To secure places, please reply to natalie@cbforum.co.uk with the name of your company, the number of places required and a contact email and telephone number.

Tony Sheehan
Chairman, Caerphilly Business Forum
