Drop-in session at Visit Caerphilly Centre on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 08:48, Friday June 15th, 2012.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Protection of Vulnerable Adults team is holding a ‘drop-in’ session at The Visit Caerphilly Centre to coincide with today’s World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

This will be the fifth annual event that the team have held to raise awareness on how to report abuse and how to seek support for members of the community who are vulnerable and less able to defend themselves against abuse.

The agencies attending the event include Social Services, Gwent Police, Disability CANDO Advocacy, Age Concern Advocacy, Stroke Association, Adult Services Duty Information Team and Llamau.

Cllr Robin Woodyatt, cabinet member for social services, said: “Abuse against older people is completely unacceptable. We must protect vulnerable adults from such behaviour and raising awareness with an event such as this will go some way in helping to tackle this extremely important issue.”

World Elder Abuse Day is co-ordinated across the UK by the charity Action on Elder Abuse.

If you suspect that a vulnerable adult is being subjected to any form of abuse or neglect please contact the council’s Adult Services Duty Information Team on 0808 100 2500.
