Two 18-year-old men have been arrested in Abertridwr following reports of a man running around with what police described as a “long bladed” weapon.

A Gwent Police spokesman said: “We were called at 11.55am (Wednesday June 27) with the report of a man running with an object described as a long bladed weapon at the lane at the back of Thomas Street and William Harries Bungalows, Abertridwr.

“Police attended the scene and following a search, two men from Abertridwr, aged 18, have been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, threats to kill and attempted theft. The long bladed weapon has been recovered.”

There have been reports the incident was connected to an attempted theft at the nearby Spar.

The police spokesman confirmed this but would not elaborate further when asked by Caerphilly Observer.
