Pupils from Cefn Fforest Primary School are ending their year on a sporting high after success in several competitions.
The school has been seen success at football, netball and dance events during the last academic year.
In February, teacher Ceri James and Sam James both took dance troops to the regional Urdd National Eisteddfod competitions held at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni. The creative dance team trained by Mrs James winning through to the Eisteddfod .
More Urdd success followed with the girls football team coached by Lloyd Stone, winning the regional competition. The team has since represented the county borough in the all Wales Finals in May.
The team travelled to Cwmbran for the Regional Tournament, winning five out of their six games, scoring 13 goals and only conceding one in the process.
The boys football team also coached by Mr Stone, has enjoyed similar success this year. The team became North Islwyn champions, winning the league by nine points and were then crowned champions of Caerphilly after a play-off involving the five different league winners within the county borough.
Headteacher Mrs Farmer said: “As a school we facilitate many after school clubs, and our success this year shows the dedication of both staff and pupils to their sporting endeavours.”
Cllr Rhianon Passmore, cabinet member for education congratulated the school.
She said: “Cefn Fforest have really shown their Olympic spirit. Well done to all those who have competed and good luck to those still to compete.”
The school’s netball team run by Year 3 teacher Ceri James, produced a superb effort in their North Islwyn League campaign. They were narrowly beaten into second place by Rhiw-Syr-Dafydd, with only one point separating them.
