Incumbent chair of Gwent Police Authority Cilla Davies has been re-elected to the post.
Mrs Davies was re-elected unopposed at at Gwent Police Authority’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday June 28.
She said: “It is a privilege for me to be re-elected as Chair of the Police Authority for this final term of office. I’ve had the honour of being a Gwent Police Authority member since 2001, and this is my sixth year as Chair.
“In my time with the police authority I have worked hard with other colleagues throughout Wales looking to provide a Police service which reflected the needs and concerns of residents.
“This is perhaps our most challenging period, as we work hard to transfer the governance of policing in Gwent to a Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) in five months’ time. The work of the authority is at a crucial stage in managing the transition process, ensuring the Police and Crime Commissioner takes over a well run and professional organisation with a balanced budget.
“Over the years Gwent Police Authority has worked hard and challenged successive Chief Constables to improve performance, provide value for money and better services for the people of Gwent. The good work of the Authority has been recognised in several independent reports and I’m proud of the role we have played.
“I believe passionately in leaving a strong and positive legacy that reflects the excellent work undertaken by members of the Police Authority, our staff and all members of Gwent Police. Careful, challenging and supportive Governance is vital at all times, and I shall endeavour to ensure this is maintained up until the Commissioner takes charge.
“We continue to face challenging financial constraints and difficult decisions will need to be made. I retain the same dedication, enthusiasm and energy to serve the people of Gwent as I always have, and I’m honoured to do so as the authority’s chair.”
