Second-hand car complaints tops Caerphilly Trading Standards list

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Friday June 29th, 2012.

Complaints about second-hand cars account for more than one in ten calls to Trading Standards in Caerphilly County Borough.

During the last financial year, 192 of the 4,871 calls (12%) made to Consumer Direct Wales relating to Caerphilly were concerned with second-hand cars.

Complaints about home maintenance and improvements crept in at second highest, with 120 complaints (7% of all calls). Completing the top five were complaints over personal computers, telecommunications and vehicle repairs.

Of the 4,871 calls, 1,602 needed further in-depth consumer advice.

Cllr David Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services with Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “The council is dedicated to providing a high quality Consumer Advice service by protecting the public from criminal activities, empowering consumers to take action and supporting local businesses. The service also acts as a basis to improve the knowledge of the consumer, whilst making the borough a place where people are happy to live.”

The council said the overall level of customer satisfaction was high in the county borough with 98% of callers are fairly or very satisfied with the Consumer Advice service.
