Staff from Caerphilly-based Thomas Carroll Group have completed a 250 mile North to South Wales bike ride to raise money for children’s hospice Tŷ Hafan.

The company is aiming to raise £40,000 in celebrations of its 40th anniversary.

Twenty six riders from the insurance, health and safety and financial management group, took on the four-day challenge and helped the company reach the halfway point of £20,000.

The route, from Anglesey to Cardiff Bay – known as ‘Lon Las’ – took in three mountain ranges including Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons. It is regarded as one of the toughest on the National Cycle Network.

Rhys Thomas, managing director of Thomas Carroll, said: “This has been one of the most extreme challenges we have undertaken and the sense of achievement is immense.

“We have now reached £22,000, which is fantastic, but there is a long way to go and thanks to our wonderful supporters, I believe we can make it for the children and families of Tŷ Hafan.”

Members of Thomas Carroll have also completed the Three Peaks Challenge for Tŷ Hafan and the company will also be fundraising with an “It’s a Knock-out”style event, and a Taff Trail cycle ride.
