DAYS celebrates first anniversary helping youngsters with substance abuse

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:17, Monday July 9th, 2012.

A substance misuse service has helped an estimated 3,500 youngsters during its first year.

DAYS (Drug and Alcohol Youth Support), formally known as the CRI Young Persons Substance Misuse Service, supports youngsters aged between ten and 18 through outreach sessions and workshops.

Sandra Viles, team leader for DAYS, said: “Our first anniversary in the borough is an opportunity to celebrate not only the great work being carried out by our staff and the tremendous number of young people we have been able to reach but also the hard work and commitment shown by the young people who have worked with our service over the past year.

“This has been a great start for DAYS in the Caerphilly County Borough and Blaenau Gwent and we look forward to the opportunities and successes that the next year has to offer.”

To mark the first anniversary, DAYS recently held an open day at their base at Evans Business Centre, Caerphilly. The open day was a chance to demonstrate successful projects and display artwork and poems written by the young people who have received help and support.

The team are now looking forward to getting out and about this summer in their new outreach bus bringing information and advice to even more young people at local events and festivals.

DAYS is a free, flexible and confidential service for young people between the ages of ten and 18.

  • If you are under 18 and have questions or are worried about any issue surrounding drugs or alcohol, or if you would like further information about DAYS and what the team can offer a young person you know, please contact DAYS on freephone 0808 168 7176.
