A Bedwas building maintenance firm has been recognised for its quality of work.

GKR Maintenance and Building Co, based on the Bedwas House Industrial Estate, won the ‘Integration and Collaborative working’ category at the recent Constructing Excellence in Wales awards.

The company was awarded the trophy for its long-term working relationship with Wales and West Housing.

The team was commended for reducing costs and waste and for its focus on long term projects.

Jayne Rowland-Evans, GKR Director, said: “I am thrilled that GKR has received this special commendation from Constructing Excellence in Wales and that our ongoing work within the industry has been recognised with such approval.

“We have worked with Wales and West Housing for almost four years on this project; however our working relationship extends to over a decade.

“This trophy reflects what the partners have achieved for the housing association residents and we are grateful for the recognition. We all work together in a positive and trusting environment and have formed a unique bond in our joint-ventures which has been strengthened over the years.”

GKR provides bathroom and kitchen upgrades to the Wales and West Housing.

Constructing Excellence in Wales is an umbrella body for the construction industry in Wales.

Funded by the Welsh Government its remit is to improve the construction process in Wales.

Milica Kitson, Constructing Excellence in Wales Chief Executive said: “The awards ceremony showcased what effective teamwork and great leadership in the Welsh Built Environment sector is capable of achieving.

“The quality of entries was specifically high this year and the judging panel faced a difficult task to determine the winners amongst the entrants. Despite the economic downturn the construction industry is thriving in Wales thanks to effective integration and collaboration within the industry. Congratulations to all.”
