Caerphilly Council hands out 67 fines for littering in three months

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:21, Thursday July 12th, 2012.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has handed out 67 fines to people for littering and a further 22 fines for dog fouling in the last three months.

The local authority – which spends more than £3m a year cleaning streets – handed out the £75 fixed penalty notices between April 1 and June 30 this year – a 286% increase on the number of fines issued in the same period in 2010.

It has warned residents not to drop litter and not to allow their dogs to foul in public places with its enforcement officers being vigilant. Any person handed a £75 fixed penalty for littering and fails to pay will be taken to court by the council.

Cllr Dave Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “Like most people I find it infuriating that we have to waste so much public money keeping our beautiful county clean.

“I would encourage all residents to take their environmental responsibilities seriously by taking their litter home or using the bins that are situated throughout the borough.”
