Three rare goshawk chicks have hatched at Cwmcarn Forest.

A pair of goshawks have made their home at Cwmcarn Forest and set about laying eggs at the site – three of which have now hatched, with another yet to.

The RSPB recently set up a ‘nest-cam’ for birdwatchers and visitors to Cwmcarn Forest to see the birds without disturbing them.

Known as ‘the phantoms of the forest’, only 500 breeding pairs of goshawks exist in the UK.

The nest-cam project is a partnership between the RSPB, Forestry Commission Wales and Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Laura Reynolds, RSPB Cymru Senior People Engagement Officer said: “Visitors at Cwmcarn Forest had such a fantastic time as they watched the very first Date with Nature goshawk chick enter the world. We are now looking forward to meeting more people and showing off these magnificent chicks to the people of Wales.”
