Pengam Railway station car park is to close temporarily for 30 weeks while redevelopment work is carried out.
The car park will close on August 13, 2012, while work to expand park and ride facilities is undertaken by contractor Raymond Brown Construction Ltd.
Caerphilly County Borough Council has said the work will also improve passenger safety with better CCTV and street lighting, improved access with cycle parking, ramps to platforms and disabled parking.
Cllr Tom Williams, cabinet member for highways, transportation and engineering, said: “We appreciate resident’s co-operation during these development works which will provide enhanced facilities for the community. These works will improve transport links, safety and accessibility for all passengers.”
Alternative Park and Ride facilities are available at Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly and Bargoed stations during the closure.
The scheme is a partnership between Caerphilly county borough council and Sewta, with funding from the European Regional Development Fund and the Welsh Government.
I know it is NOW – but it wasn't always – outside the county borough. But why don't we do something about Taff's Well station car park? It quite easily gets full; the county borough (RCT, not ours) yellow lines means parking anywhere else is impossible. This forces passengers to go to the next station of Radyr, where there is a lot more space. I am complaining merely because with late trains you have got to wait a long time … which means you go all the way by car. Taff's Well station is occasionally still of use to Caerffili area.
