Final preparations are underway for Megaday 2012 – Caerphilly’s annual charity music festival.

Now in its 18th year, the annual music festival is being held on Sunday August 26. Over the years it has raised more than £220,000 for Velindre Hospital.

It is held each year at Caerphilly Rugby Club’s Virginia Park ground in memory of local musicians Andrew Nichols, who was known as Mega, and Paul Grahame, who both lost their lives to cancer.

Until his death in 2001, Paul had played at every Megaday with his band PG and the Tips and had also played a major role in organising the festival.

Twelve bands will play between 2pm and 10.30pm in a large outdoor marquee.

This year’s line-up includes a Foo Fighters tribute band and many local favourites such as Jaded and 4th Street Traffic.

The night as always will finish with a moving and explosive professional fireworks display.

Past Megaday events have been a huge success with thousands of music fans attending and organisers expect another bumper crowd again this year.

One of the Megaday organisers Steve Sullivan said: “Megaday is a fantastic event and is always a special weekend for everyone involved, it’s a great opportunity for people to get together and enjoy a great time whist helping a great cause too.”

Entry is £8 per adult (£1 off with flyer) and free for Children aged 12 and under. For more information, please visit www.megaday.net
