Maesycwmmer Community Council has been praised for funding a summer play scheme by Islwyn MP Chris Evans and Cllr Robin Woodyatt.

Mr Evans and Councillor Woodyatt joined over 50 children from all over the village in enjoying a range of activities including skittles, arts and crafts and table tennis.

The four-week play scheme all builds up towards a special talent show for families and friends with rehearsals in full swing during the visit.

Maesycwmmer Community Council invited Mr Evans and Cllr Woodyatt to see the scheme which has been funded by a £2,200 grant to buy materials, equipment and entertainer fees.

Mr Evans said: “I have attended several activities with Maesycwmmer Community Council and this was yet another event that was well organised and received the support of the entire village.

“This play scheme is another event which demonstrates the community spirit of Maesycwmmer.”

Cllr Woodyatt added: “It is good to know that so many families in Maesycwmmer are utilising and enjoying the play scheme’s facilities; one of the very few play schemes to be run by a Community Council.

“I would like to pay tribute to the wonderful, dedicated staff of the Community Council who run the scheme each year.”
