Three friends will be setting off on a 190 mile cycle ride from Caernarfon Castle to Caerphilly Castle on Friday to raise cash for charity Help for Heroes.

Tony Griffths, 54, Jason Howe, 29 and John Hobbs, 28, all from Caerphilly, are hoping to raise £2,000 foe the veterans charity. The team will be ably assisted by support man John Lewis and will leave Caernarfon Castle at 8am on Friday.

The men, who have been in training for three months, are all friends through their local pub the Station Inn on Nantgarw Road.

Tony said: “We always do quite a bit for charity and last year was the first bike ride we did at 50 miles and we followed that up with a skydive.

“This year we decided to go for a nice bike ride with a bigger challenge to test the stamina – hopefully our legs will last.

“We always wanted to finish at Caerphilly Castle and originally decided to go from Snowdon, but we thought if we’re driving there, we might as well go further north and start at Caernarfon Castle. I Passed it by the boys and they were happy with that.”

The ride of around 190 miles will start from Caernarfon Castle at 8am on Friday August 24 calling through towns and villages to Builth Wells.

After an overnight stay, it will be back on the bikes to Caerphilly Castle with a late afternoon arrival.

Last week the four friends got their fundraising efforts to a great start at an event at the Station Inn.

A tug-of-war contest, skittles competition and video horse racing all raised £500.
