Residents fight off burglar in Pontllanfraith break-in

Two residents fought off a coke-swigging, straw hat-wearing burglar during an early morning break-in in Pontllanfraith.

Gwent Police said a property on Bryn Road, Pontllanfraith, was broken into in the early hours of Tuesday August 28 by a burglar wearing a straw hat and carrying a can of coke.

At approximately 5.30am the man entered the property through an unsecured door, The burglar was caught by the occupants who fought with him. The burglar ran off from the property – with a set of house keys – in the direction of Gelligroes Road.

Police are reminding residents in Pontllanfraith on the importance of home security following the incident.

The man, who appeared to be drunk, is described as aged between 20 and 24, 5ft 6in tall, of medium build, with blue eyes and fair shaved hair.

He was clean shaven with a slim face and was wearing a black bomber jacket, light coloured t-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. The man was also wearing a straw hat and was carrying a coke can.

The burglar, police say, would have an injury to his lower left back as a result of the struggle.

  • Update: August 31. Police have arrested a 28-year-old man from the Blackwood area on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

      Not sure how walking through an unsecured door constitutes a break in. Even so its a bit random for some drunk bloke to have chanced upon it.
