A Caerphilly County Borough Council worker has helped to raise more than £14,000 by taking part in a charity Pink Car Rally from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

Sue Toogood, who works for the council’s Fleet Management Team, owns a pink Smart car and was one of 27 drivers to take part in the rally last month.

The car drivers between them managed to raise £14,000 for the Little Princess Trust – a charity which provides real hair wigs to children who have suffered hair loss through cancer treatments.

Sue said: “This was a momentous experience in my life. I have always enjoyed participating in fund-raising events, it not only helps little children, but also helps me take a break from the norm and succeed my own goals in life.

“Being a mother of two amazing children with Cystic Fibrosis, I have always been drawn to helping those in need and I’ve been fortunate to have met so many wonderful people who care about others enough to attempt amazing challenges to raise funds.

A very big thank you to all the wonderful CCBC staff, who helped me to sell well over 600 raffle tickets.”

The Hereford-based charity will be able to use the impressive sum of money raised to provide an additional three children a month with wigs, for a year.

Sali Gray, who organised the rally, said: “I am passionate about the work of the charity as hair loss is a terrible thing, at any age, but particularly so for children. I just want to help families to find out about the Little Princess Trust, so that more children have access to these beautiful wigs. Organising the Pink Car Rally is my way of helping to raise awareness.’

A total of 27 cars took part in the rally, with 9 cars completing the entire length of Britain and the other 18 cars joining for a number of different legs. In addition, a pink National Express coach joined the last two legs of the rally, collecting pink passengers in Gloucester on the way.
