Off-roading vandals have caused more than £850 worth of damage at Cwmcarn Forest with their 4x4s.

Forestry Commission Wales said the vandals rammed barriers and a metal fence at the top of Cwmcarn Forest Drive, just off Mynydd Maen Common, in a bid to gain access to the countryside.

The vandals also pulled the pedestrian cattle grid almost out of the ground, which stopped people walking along the public right of way using the entrance.

Andrew Powell, from the Forestry Commission, said: “The people who engage in this activity have no thought for the safety of the public who enjoy our woodlands, or for the damage they cause to the environment.

“Ultimately, it’s the taxpayer who has to pick up the bill to repair the damage they cause and we are appealing for any information on who may have done this so that we can bring them to account.”

Anyone with information should contact the local Forestry Commission Wales office on 02920 886863 or the police non-emergency number on 101.
