Caerphilly Business Forum blog: Quality and ambition of Caerphilly businesses shown

News, Opinion | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Friday September 21st, 2012.

In his regular column for Caerphilly Observer, Caerphilly Business Forum’s chair Tony Sheehan highlights two Caerphilly firms featured in the Fast Growth 50.

Huge congratulations must go to two Caerphilly businesses UES Energy Ltd and Learn About (Wales) Ltd who made it into this year’s Welsh Fast Growth 50.

This is a great achievement and, I believe, really demonstrates the quality and ambition of businesses in the borough.

In the words of business commentator and expert Professor Dylan Jones-Evans: “It is a constant reminder of the vast entrepreneurial potential that exists within the Welsh business sector, with growth performance by businesses that is as good as any to be found across the regions of the UK.”

Previous winners of the Fast Growth 50 have gone from strength to strength and used their win as a chance to promote their success, raising awareness for their business. Next year I hope to see even more Caerphilly businesses taking part.

All awards, of course, should be used a springboard and an excuse to shout about how wonderful your business is.

For those of you that haven’t already taken this message to heart, there is still time to enter our Caerphilly Business Forum Awards. Entry is free and you don’t have to be a forum member to take part. Simply go to Caerphilly Business Forum’s website and download an entry form.

There have been any number of examples in the last 11 years of how companies from within the Caerphilly County Borough have shone at the CBF Awards – and gone on to develop and grow their businesses into great success stories within their own sectors.

On winning Best Small Business in 2011, Martyn Fear, Specialist Precasts’ Manager Director, said: “The coverage we received really raised awareness of the business; it was the sort of publicity that money really can’t buy. Not only did it let people know that we were back in business it also emphasised the quality of the product we’re offering.”

I cannot stress enough just how important it is to any business to enter awards such as these. Never mind the winning, just the taking part can make a huge difference to any company, rubbing shoulders with past winners and other entrants can often prove to be invaluable in providing expert advice and support from people in the same boat who have done it – and won it.

We also have a great deal of fun in celebrating all those businesses that enter at the annual Caerphilly Business Forum Awards night, which for the second year is being staged at Llancaiach Fawr Manor in November, and that’s another very good reason to take part in the search for the business excellence in the Caerphilly area.

To enter the awards, simply go to www.cbforum.co.uk and download an entry form. Entry is free and the deadline is September 21. Good luck.

Chairman, Caerphilly Business Forum
