A pub company has defended its policy of accepting only certain forms of ID as proof of age after the Court House pub turned away a serving member of the Armed forces.
Royal Marine Ross Morgan, 21,from Abertridwr, was turned away from Caerphilly town’s Court House pub recently after showing his Army warrant card for proof of age.
Mr Morgan, who has served in Afghanistan, said pub staff said they couldn’t accept the ID as proof of age.
His family have labelled the pub’s actions as “disgusting” and a snub to serving soldiers.
Father Rob Morgan said: “They haven’t even had the decency to respond to my complaint. It’s disgusting – they shouldn’t turn away serving soldiers
“His warrant card can be used as a passport to go abroad but can’t be used to get into a pub. I’m really disappointed in them.”
A spokesman for Spirit Pub Company, which owns the Court House, said: “The only forms of ID accepted across all pubs in the UK are; a photo driving licence, a passport or a proof of age card such as PASS.”
Ross`s father, Rob Morgan has every right to be annoyed at his law abiding son being turned away from The Courthouse Pub in Caerphilly.
But, to be turned away from this hostelry is nothing to be ashamed of, it has to be the worse run pub in the town, and, believe me, that is saying something. It`s police record of disturbances and incidents, to which the police have to attend, is legionary, Ross is better off looking elsewhere to relax whilst on leave from the armed services.
I am disgusted by the way this young Brave Man has been treated by the 'Bouncers?''of the Courthouse!
What gives them the right to refuse a Serving Royal Marine entry when his ID card has his photo and age of which was authentic for entry to the premises?
He has served his Country in Warfare in Afghanistan' ..He can Serve US? but' We Can't Serve Him?
Sounds like a really stupid company. Perhaps they should also employ staff whe are intelligent enough to be able to read a warrant card. Perhaps that would be asking too much.
