A team of First Responders in Blackwood is appealing for new volunteers.

First Responder volunteers are trained to attend emergency calls received by the ambulance service and provide care until the ambulance arrives.

Islwyn MP Chris Evans has teamed up with Carl Thomas of Blackwood First Responders to help appeal for volunteers to support the work of the Welsh Ambulance Service and attend emergency calls.

Mr Evans said: “Blackwood First Responders do an excellent job supporting our paramedics but more volunteers are needed.

“First Responders receive full training by the Welsh Ambulance Service and are able to administer first aid skills, resuscitation and use a defibrillator.

“If you would like to find out more about joining your local first responder team, email firstresponder.south@ambulance.wales.nhs.uk or visit www.ambulance.wales.nhs.uk.”
