Risca to get two community councils

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Wednesday October 3rd, 2012.

County Borough Councillors have agreed to establish two new community councils for Risca.

At a meeting of full council last week, it was agreed that community councils for the areas of Risca East and Risca West are to be established.

The two new councils come after successful campaigning by local residents.

Elections will take place for the new community councils on November 15 with subsequent elections falling into the normal pattern of local government elections.

David Beecham, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s electoral services manager, said: “The electorate of Risca East and Risca West voted in favour of establishing community councils to represent their areas. Community councils form an important part of the community plan and will allow for efficient local government in the wards.”

There will be four wards for Risca West Community Council representing an electorate of 4,207 and three wards for Risca East Community Council representing 4,646.
