The University of Glamorgan has been rated Wales’s top new university in the Guardian’s prestigious league table.
Placed in the top three of Welsh institutions with Cardiff and Aberystwyth, Glamorgan’s position rose by eight places, the largest increase in Wales.
Julie Lydon, the Vice-Chancellor, told staff that: “Glamorgan’s position has risen again. The latest rise puts us in the top three Welsh universities, and rates us as the best of Wales’s ‘post-92’ Higher Education institutions. We are particularly pleased because the students themselves have a major say in the Guardian table rankings. This result is a reflection of the University’s commitment to investing in the student experience, and to the continuing commitment of Glamorgan’s staff to giving students both the strong degree and vital employability skills they need.”
Glamorgan also scored highly on individual subject ratings across the arts and sciences. The University is rated no. 2 in the UK for Anatomy and Physiology and is in the top 25 of UK universities for subjects including Art and Design, Mathematics, Dance and Drama, Nursing and Paramedic Studies, and Geography and environmental studies.
The Guardian University Guide is based on data for full-time undergraduates at 120 of the UK’s universities. The tables, compiled by an independent consultancy firm, ranks universities according to how much they spend per student; their student/staff ratio; the career prospects of their graduates; what grades applicants need; a value-added score that compares the academic achievements of first-years and their final degree results; and how content final-year students are with their courses, based on the annual National Student Survey.
