Charity CRI launches new food co-operative in Blackwood

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Friday October 5th, 2012.

A new food co-operative has been launched in Blackwood by charity CRI.

The new co-operative will be run from the charity’s base at Chambers House on Blackwood Road, Blackwood.

Residents can drop in and pre-order bags of fresh fruit, vegetables, salad and stir fries for just £3 each.

The scheme is one of 340 food co-ops currently operating across Wales which is delivered by the Rural Regeneration Unit funded by the Welsh Government.

Ellie Barraclough, team leader for CRI Adult Alcohol Service, said: “This new venture is a very important addition to the services we already provide which centre on empowering people to make and maintain changes for a healthier lifestyle.

“The food cooperative is available to anyone in the community and we hope it will be a really positive way for us to make connections with the larger community and help people to live well on a wider scale.

“The boxes contain a real variety of foods which can be used to create lots of different meals and we hope being able to pre order the packs at such a reasonable price will really make it easier for people to make healthier choices for themselves and their families in their day to day lives.”

CRI Adult Alcohol Service offers free advice and support and a range of treatment options for anyone concerned about their own alcohol use or that of someone else. This includes, but is not limited to, brief advice and practical help to bring alcohol use under control, structured counselling and treatment plans to maintain recovery, community detoxification programmes and referral to residential rehabilitation.

Charity paid for by tax payers, I think they call it welfare for there is certainly no charity involved in wasting other peoples money.

This is a perfect example of what Cameron Clegg and the rest of the rabble want the ` Third Sector` ( Charities) to do in communities.

Mr Cameron would be proud that these charitable groups are providing for the needs of vunerable people in our communities, I am surprised Helen disagrees with Mr Cameraon and Mr Clegg.
