The Caerphilly Borough branch of mental health charity Mind has been awarded £12,000 by bank Lloyds TSB.
The money from Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, the bank’s charity, will go towards covering the salary costs of its director. The charity delivers a range of community mental health programmes including volunteering and training support to encourage clients to learn new skills and help them regain their confidence and self esteem through activity groups and information and advice sessions. It also runs a charity shop and a horticulture project.
Advance Brighter Futures (ABF) in Wrexham has also been granted £12,000 for its mental health work.
Mike Lewis, foundation grant manager for Wales, said: “There is still considerable stigma surrounding mental illness, which can contribute to individuals becoming isolated. Both of these charities provide valuable services to those affected by mental illness. The Foundation is committed to helping the most disadvantaged in society to play a fuller role in their communities.”
