A network of dedicated volunteers is to meet on Monday May 23 to discuss community safety.
The Safer Caerphilly Volunteer Network, which comprises more than 200 volunteers, will meet council, police and health officials to discuss how they can play a role in helping tackle crime, disorder and antisocial behaviour in Caerphilly County Borough.
The meeting will be held at Caerphilly County Borough Council’s headquarters Penallta House, from 5.45pm until 7.15pm.
The focus will be to inform members of the Safer Caerphilly Volunteer Network about substance misuse and the services available within county borough to help tackle this issue.
Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “Multi-agency working is vital in our quest for even safer communities, and it is especially pleasing that we also have the local knowledge and commitment of this dedicated group of volunteers to work with us in achieving our goal.
“I would encourage anyone who is interested in joining this ever-growing family of volunteers to come along and find out more.”

I wonder how this `tier` of locally inspired networking differs from the failed Gwent Police PACT process.
The PACT process was suppossed to form a platform from which all members of the Community would come together to discuss the very same issues which this `network` is now proposing to discuss.
Whilst I am sure the Safer Caerphilly Volunteer Network volunteers, drawn from the communities, have a dedicated and worthwhill intention, this is precisely the example of wasting ratepayers money which the public, and the Government, have been bating on about for a year now, and which the great and the good Councillors of Caerphilly Council have been battling with to save public money.
It is this very replication of Local Government and other public body gettogethers which wastes public funds and which could be better spent on say School Libraries, for instance, if all the community volunteers who attend such local authority meetings, instead, attended thier local PACT meetings the result would be far better than generating even more work for local Council employees just for the sake of it as this event does..
