Officers from Caerphilly County Borough Council teamed up with local school children recently to promote the National Spring Clean Campaign, with a clean-up in Risca and Abercarn.

The council’s Tidy Towns Tidy Places and Fast Forward Future Jobs teams worked on the cutting and clearing of overgrowth and undergrowth along popular walkways.

Pupils from Ysgol Gynradd Cwm Gwyddon’s ‘Eco-Group’ worked hard to improve the area with a litter pick.

Cllr Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member of public services said: “Our teams work tirelessly to improve our environment for the benefit of residents and visitors to our county borough, and I am delighted that local school children have got so involved in this clean up scheme too.”

Mrs Tucknutt from Ysgol Gynradd Cwm Gwyddon said: “The pupils involved in the clean up returned to school and relayed the important messages they’d learned during the day, including the need for us all to be clean and green and have pride in our environment.

“Such activity is an example to follow, and will further help enhance our school’s green credentials.”
