Fochriw Intergenerational Club launches

A new intergenerational club where youngsters and older people meet has been launched in Fochriw.

Fochriw Primary School has become the latest Caerphilly County Borough School to launch an intergenerational club.

The club, which meets at 12pm each Thursday, aims to share skills across the generations.

Older people join the school pupils for lunch and conversation and take part in activities together.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, said: “This year the theme for Older People’s Day was The Big Skills share.

“How fitting for a new intergenerational club to launch that same week, as the whole purpose of these clubs is to share knowledge and skills across the generations to improve the community.

“It is fantastic to see more and more of these successful clubs springing up across the borough.”

The intergenerational clubs are funded by the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership as part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Welsh Government Community Cohesion Fund.
