Pupils at Ystrad Mynach Primary School have recently launched their very own radio station with the help of Real Radio’s Jagger and Woody.

The pupil’s responsible for running ‘Ystrad FM’ were lucky enough to work with the Real Radio Breakfast Show presenters to create their own broadcast.

The whole school received a special assembly led by the presenters who were joined by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Mayor, Cllr Gaynor Oliver, to officially launch the station.

Mayor Gaynor Oliver said, “It is wonderful to hear and see the children producing content for their peers“.

The radio station forms part of the school’s approach to teaching computer skills.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, said: “Using technology to supplement traditional learning can enhance pupils experience in school and give them skills for the future. The radio station will give the pupils a feeling of ownership and enable them to learn and be creative in an exciting environment.”
