More than 2,000 Year 9 pupils from across Caerphilly County Borough will descend on Caerphilly Leisure Centre this week for a careers fair.

The two-day event starting on Wednesday gives pupils the opportunity to explore their career options ahead of choosing what GCSEs to study.

Attended by Deputy Minister for Skills and Caerphilly AM Jeff Cuthbert, the event will allow hands on opportunities for students to explore a range of different occupations and volunteering opportunities and training.

Mr Cuthbert said: “Having the right work experience and skills is becoming increasingly important in a competitive jobs market. Young people need to have the guidance and knowledge to help them make decisions about their future.

“Events such as these are important in helping young people explore the many opportunities they have and supports them in making the right decision for them.”

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, cabinet member for education and lifelong learning at Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “For many young people, making important choices about their future plans can be very daunting. By providing pupils with the opportunity to explore different career choice options, and helping provide them with the knowledge needed to ensure they’re best placed to succeed in the workplace, they are able to feel much more in control of their future.”
