Pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Caerffili, in Caerphilly and Nant Y Parc Primary School in Senghenydd have been shortlisted as finalists in a prestigious digital media competition.
The school children will represent the Caerphilly area as their project is showcased to an audience of students, teachers and industry professionals at an award ceremony on Tuesday November 13 being held at Cineworld Cardiff.
Over 300 guests will attend the event including 17 schools from across Wales, all vying for the sought-after award trophies. Awards Ambassador, S4C presenter Chris Jones will also attend the ceremony.
Media4schools works to help children in schools develop their media and communication skills, encouraging them to further their interest in digital media. The competition was launched at the Urdd Eisteddfod in June, requiring young people to enter films they have produced about subjects important to them.
The awards main sponsor is Sony UK Technology Centre and is supported by other partners who include S4C, Real Radio, Cineworld, Morvah, HP, Boomerang, Avid and the Picture Exchange. The PR sponsor is Cake Communications.
Categories for award entries include Best Sports Film, Best Regeneration/Regional/Community Film, Best Presenter, Best Animated Film, Best Camera Work, Best Edited Film and Best Overall Film in primary and secondary school sections. There is also a vocational training Best Film award.
This year the awards will also include a Welsh language category for short film, sponsored by S4C.
Byron Lloyd, Managing Director of media4creative, the company behind the media4schools awards, said: “The awards are a great opportunity for pupils to display their filmmaking talents. Digital communications are gaining significant prominence in all areas of society. Being aware of the skills needed to progress in this industry is important for young people wishing to build careers in the media. Gaining early experiences of digital media is highly beneficial for their development and employment in the future.”
“The awards ceremony is the culmination of young people’s creative efforts from all over Wales. It will be a great experience for young students to see their work shown at such a high profile event and to have their talent recognised by industry professionals. We are looking forward to showcasing the best young digital talent Wales has to offer at the awards. We wish all finalists the best of luck.”
