Coleg Gwent students have successfully completed several charity walks battling wet and windy weather conditions.
Five business students at Crosskeys Campus chose to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice, walking 12 miles as a team enterprise activity for their Welsh Baccalaureate qualification.
Keen student Aaron Baldwin, 17 from Pontnewydd, really got in to the fundraising spirit, dressing up in a tiger suit for the walk. He said: “It was rewarding to be able to do something for a good cause, and interesting to plan and organise routes as a team.”
The five weren’t the only ones getting their walking boots on; another group of business and Welsh Baccalaureate students also took part in a 13 mile hike to Malpas via Fourteen Locks in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
Lecturer Sian Copley said: “Both groups did really well and I’m proud of what they achieved, even in mist, driving wind and rain at various points along the way. All the students have been enthusiastic and helped each other with planning and organising.”
Both groups are hoping to raise about £200, and are currently collecting sponsorship money.
