Gwent Police’s volunteer special constable team in Caerphilly County Borough Council has been named team of the year at the All-Wales Special Constabulary Awards.

The Caerphilly team, nominated by Inspector Kevin Childs, won the All Wales Team Award 2012 for their work supporting a road closure in Blackwood which aims to tackle antisocial driving.

The awards were established in 2010 and it is the third year Gwent Police has won the team award.

The winning team is made up of Special Inspector Christine Smith; Special Sergeants Paul Fisher, Rhys Hurley, Richard Matthews, Russell Childs and Dewi Roberts and Special Constables Simon Parfitt, Victoria Morris, Zoe Phillips, Steve Turner, David White, Andrew Taylor, Jo Rafferty, Matthew Terrell, Stephen Jones and Michael Coles

Gwent Police Assistant Chief Constable Simon Prince said: “The All Wales Special Constabulary Team of the Year Award focuses on a special constabulary team from Wales that has made the biggest contribution to policing in their community this year.

“Special Constables are such a vital part of the wider Gwent Police family and their contribution is extremely valuable. They make a real difference in helping to ensure our communities feel safe and reassured and the work they do cannot be overestimated.

“The force is very proud of the Caerphilly Team, and their award is a reflection of their hard work and dedication. Special Constables give up their own valuable free time to help make Gwent a safer place.”
