Gwent Police looking for volunteers to work with cadets

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:05, Tuesday December 4th, 2012.

Gwent Police is looking for volunteers to help with its police cadet scheme.

The police cadet scheme is designed to develop youngsters by giving them experience in dealing with members of the public.

The force is also appealing for volunteers to co-ordinate sister youth scheme Young Dragons – Dreigiau Ifanc.

A partnership led by HRH The Prince of Wales, Young Dragons aims to increase opportunities for youngsters to help their local communities.

The partnership involves collaboration between uniformed youth organisations (Scouts, Girlguiding, St John Ambulance, Military Cadets, Police Cadets, Fire Cadets, Boys and Girls Brigade), Local Authority Youth Services and the Department of Education.

Assistant Chief Constable Simon Prince said: “In both roles, co-ordinators will be working alongside Neighbourhood Policing Team in arranging the training of the youngsters, arranging of events, engagement opportunities and raising awareness of the initiatives.

“Both initiatives gives young people in Gwent vital life skills and experiences so we would like people who are motivated and enthusiastic to ensure the initiatives are run in the most effective way.

“Volunteers are essential to the wider police family and those who apply, if they are successful will get the satisfaction that they are making a valuable contribution to their local community.”
