A Caerphilly Council Christmas appeal to collect presents for deserving children in the county borough has been boosted by a donation from a manufacturing firm.
Cwmbran-based Zodiac Seats UK has donated more than 100 toys to the annual Operation Santa appeal.
Caerphilly County Borough Mayor Gaynor Oliver greeted company employees Sheila Needs and Janet Lewis whose efforts, alongside colleagues Buddug Britton and Jenny Taylor, made the donation possible.
Cllr Oliver said: “Donations to this year’s appeal have been rolling in, thanks to generous residents, schools, community groups and businesses such as Zodiac Seats UK. These gifts will help ensure that some of our county borough’s most disadvantaged children will receive some festive cheer this Christmas. I’d like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has supported this wonderful appeal.”
Operation Santa aims to help more than 650 local children who have been nominated by social workers.
People across the county borough can pledge to buy a toy and choose the age, gender and geographical area of the recipient. More than 700 have been pledged so far.
Operation Santa is helping families who are working with Llamau, Action for Children, Home-Start and Gofal Cymru.
People either call the pledge hotline on 01443 866577 or email operationsanta@caerphilly.gov.uk and pledge to buy a present for a child.
The pledge hotline will now be open until Wednesday December 5 – an extension on the original November 23 deadline.
Once a pledge is made, that person has to buy the gift and take it to one of the collection centres by Thursday December 6.
The collection centres are:
- Barclays Bank, Ystrad Mynach
- Customer First Blackwood
- Customer First Pontlottyn
- Harper and Wallis Estate Agent, Hanbury Road, Bargoed
- Lloyds TSB Bank, Rhymney
- Risca Family Centre, Risca
