Rhymney councillor Carl Cuss has been named Welsh Labour’s ‘Councillor of the Year’ at the party’s Annual Gala Dinner, held recently at Cardiff’s Coal Exchange.

Cllr Cuss, who represents the Twyn Carno ward, was presented his award by Olympian Natasha Perdue.

He said: “I was absolutely delighted to receive this award. Since being elected I have been involved in setting up projects and supporting many local people. I’ve held regular Street Surgeries in partnership with the local policing team.

“I am also very pleased with my appointments at council and I have recently been appointed Governor of Rhymney Comprehensive and Upper Rhymney Primary School.”

He added “I would like to put on record my thanks to the local community and my colleagues at Caerphilly Council for all the support to date and I look forward to my fiv- year term as councillor and to make a positive difference for the people of Twyn Carno.”

Cllr Gaynor Oliver, Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough, said: “The Civic Office at Caerphilly County Borough Council is pleased and proud that such a young and able new councillor has achieved a nomination, and has succeeded in being chosen as Councillor Of The Year.

“Carl has been elected for the Twyn Carno Ward in Upper Rhymney, which overwhelmingly voted in favour for this man.

“As a neighbouring ward member he has always proved helpful, friendly, consistent, loyal, popular and polite. The citizens in both Pontlottyn and Rhymney speak highly of Councillor Cuss’ commitment to his council work and he has my personal congratulations and thanks for all his help and hard work in his new but onerous role as County Councillor.”

Hosted by Shadow Welsh Secretary Owen Smith MP, Labour’s Gala Dinner included First Minister Carwyn Jones and Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury Rachel Reeves MP as guest speakers.
