This stunning photograph of New Tredegar at night has been selected as the winner of the Get Caerphilly Online photography competition.

The winning picture, taken by Eddy Blanche, was selected by Caerphilly Observer editor Richard Gurner.

Richard said: “Eddy’s picture was the stand-out image of the entries, which were all of a very high standard. The Valleys can often be portrayed as a drab and dreary place, but this picture manages to capture the area’s vibrant energy that we’re all so familiar with.

Matthew Lloyd from Get Caerphilly Online added: “We are really grateful to all the people who entered and have been impressed with the variation of photos, from fun at local events to pictures of the stunning scenery across the borough.

“It just goes to show you don’t always need a great camera to take a photo these days. Our phones mostly come with a camera so it’s easier to capture a moment wherever you are. We, as a project, are keen to encourage and support people to use all sorts of technology and to share them safely online for everyone to enjoy.”

Get Caerphilly Online is a partnership supported by the Welsh Government Communities 2.0 programme, Caerphilly County Borough Council and Get IT Together – a nationwide digital inclusion programme run by national charity Citizens Online.

The project aims to boost internet access for people by teaching new skills and has recently launched its ‘Digital Friday’ initiative.

People from across Caerphilly County Borough can attend free computer drop-in sessions to help them access the internet, learn new skills and discover more about technology.

Although anyone can make use of the initiative, the open sessions are targeted towards beginners and will include lessons on how to use a computer, setting up an email address, online shopping and job searches.

The first sessions will be held at Blackwood, Caerphilly and Risca libraries on Friday December 14 between 10am and 3pm. In the New Year, sessions will continue to run in the same libraries starting from Friday January 4.
