A free to use outdoor gym has been unveiled at Blackwood Showfields.

Caerphilly County Borough Council said it developed the facility after feedback from community groups and local residents.

Councillor David Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “This fantastic new facility provides equipment to suit all abilities and age groups.

“January is a popular time for people to get into fitness and we are proud to offer a facility that will encourage residents to engage in exercise in an outdoor environment, free of charge. We recognise that outdoor fitness zones are becoming increasingly popular and if this scheme is successful, we will look at ways of providing additional facilities in other parts of the county borough.”

Similar sites have sprung up across the UK as part of the Olympic legacy initiative and this is one of only a few in Wales.

Excellent idea that will create interest, not only of upstanding citizens but also the mindless vandals that occupy the borough.
In most places the equipment/area will need monitoring and controlling
