Caerphilly Council appeal for more foster carers

Caerphilly County Borough Council is looking for more foster carers in the county borough who can provide a child with the best possible start in life.

There is now an even easier way for people to enquire; simply text the word ‘foster’ to 78866.

Cllr Robin Woodyatt, cabinet member for social services, said: “Foster carers play such an important role in ensuring that the children they care for lead happy and healthy lives. While making a tremendous difference to the life of a child they can also enrich their own.

“The new text service that the fostering team have set up makes it so easy for people to enquire about becoming a foster carer that there is really no excuse to delay. I would encourage everyone who has ever seriously considered becoming a foster carer to use the new service and help change the life of a child.”

The only criteria a foster carer must meet is to be aged 21 years or over – as long as a person has time in their life and space in their home they will be eligible. Those who work aren’t excluded and neither are those who are single, rent their property or have a disability.

Full training and continuous support is provided for those who decide to foster and they are also given financial assistance, including fees.

Please text ‘foster’ to 78866, call 0800 587 5664 or visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk/fostering to find out more. Texts cost the standard network rate.
