Tributes have been paid to long-standing Risca Councillor Stan Jenkins who passed away this week at the age of 67.

Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council led the tributes to his friend and colleague.

Cllr Andrews said: “Stan was a pillar of the local community and was dedicated to promoting the interests of his community and the people of Risca. His sad death is a major blow and we have lost a friend, colleague and a great ambassador for the Caerphilly County Borough.

“Our thoughts are very much with his wife Moreen and his family during this very difficult time.”

Cllr Jenkins was a past member and Mayor of Islwyn Borough Council and past chair of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Planning Committee.

He dedicated a great deal of his time to the refurbishment of the Risca Section of the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal and was a valued fundraiser and supporter of the Royal British Legion.

The funeral arrangements are confirmed as 1pm on Thursday January 31 2013 at the Moriah Baptist Chapel, Risca and then at Thornhill Crematorium, Cardiff followed by refreshments at the Top Club, Risca.
