Cefn Hengoed Ladies Choir has been plucked from hundreds of entries across the UK to compete in the Barnado’s National Choir Competition in Birmingham on March 23 2013.

The winners of the prestigious competition will have the chance to sing in the Royal Albert Hall or Westminster Cathedral in London.

The choir will be singing a mixture of works from Carl Jenkins to Benjamin Britten, finishing the evening with the show piece Rhythm of Life from Sweet Charity.

After celebrating their 65th anniversary in 2012 with a sell out concert at Lewis Girls School, performing a versatile catalogue of songs from Vivaldi to more contemporary music, the choir were then honoured with an invitation by the speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, to sing in Westminster Palace.

The choir finished the year on a high note with a concert in Ty Penallta and were invited to a celebratory lunch with the Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Harry Andrews, and the Mayor, Cllr Gaynor Oliver.

Rehearsals take place every Thursday evening in term time between 7pm and 9pm at Derwendeg Primary School in Cefn Hengoed. New members are always welcome and there are no auditions necessary.
