Blackwood Comprehensive pupils win national competition

Three Blackwood Comprehensive pupils have won the National Trading Standards Institute’s ‘Young Consumers of the Year Project 2012’ – sponsored by Halfords.

The pupils had to research issues in relation to antisocial behaviour, solvent abuse and graffiti. Their brief was to find a way of educating young people of the dangers of solvent abuse and associated graffiti.

The three pupils chose to design a poster; radio advert and media campaign to warn their peers of the dangers of solvent abuse and discouraging graffiti.

The pupils, Tia Noakes, Jessica Hambly Davies and Katie Dugmore were rewarded for their hard work at a presentation at Halfords store in Blackwood recently where they were presented with pop-up tents, a camping cookery set and £200 worth of Halfords vouchers for the school.

Cllr David Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “This is a fantastic achievement, but not surprising considering the amount of work the pupils put into their submission which was of a very high standard. Well done.”

The winning posters will now be displayed at Halfords stores across the UK.
