National Assembly to debate 20mph zones on Welsh roads

The National Assembly for Wales will discuss the potential benefits of increasing the number of 20mph zones in Welsh towns and cities.

The Individual Members’ Debate, put forward by Joyce Watson AM, Peter Black AM, Jocelyn Davies AM and Byron Davies AM, proposes that the National Assembly:

  • Notes that in 2011 pedestrian casualties represented 21 per cent of Killed and Seriously Injured (KSI) road traffic casualties in Wales;
  •  Recognises the proven casualty reduction benefits of 20mph speed limits; and
  •  Calls on local authorities to increase the number of 20mph zones in Wales.

The debate will take place during Plenary at the Senedd at 1.30pm on Wednesday February 6.

Crescent Road in Caerphilly town has recently been made a 20mph zone.
