Morgan Jones Park in Caerphilly town has had security gates installed to improve security.

The gates follow a spate of recent incidents where £3,000 worth of damage was caused to council vehicles and equipment. Littering and antisocial behaviour were also causing concern to residents and the local authority.

After discussions between local ward councillors, Gwent Police and community safety wardens, the new gates were installed.

Since the introduction of the gates at Morgan Jones Park, the council has said there there has been a marked reduction in antisocial behaviour and littering.

Cllr David Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “I am pleased to see the Community Asset Fund already making a positive difference in community spaces across the county borough. All the projects will help us create an attractive, well-kept county borough and enhance a sense of community pride.”

The gates were financed by the Community Asset Fund 2012/13, which the council’s cabinet agreed to allocate £400,000 last year, and Caerphilly Town Council.

The fund will be used on a wide range of schemes to help improve towns and villages including tackling vandalism, replacement of damaged street furniture, landscaping and other small items of maintenance work not covered by other council budgets.
