A Caerphilly student has been awarded the Young Fashion Photographer of the Year commendation at the Clothes Show Live 2012.
Hayley Jones, 19, was awarded the prize for her image based on the work of renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino. Hayley had only taken part in a short half-day photography training session before winning the prize.
The second year BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion student, who is studying at the University of Glamorgan, received the award at the event in Birmingham’s NEC.
Hayley said: “I feel really privileged to have won, especially with the standard of photography produced by other contestants being so high. It was a shock to be quite honest.
“Photography is something that I’m really interested in and something I would love to pursue a career in, so to receive the commendation was a really great feeling.”
Hayley was one of four students from the university’s Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries to be shortlisted for the award. Fellow Fashion Promotion students Lucy Mitchell, Hollie Blundell and Simone Narbett all secured places among the top ten finalists.
Sarah Carter, lecturer on the fashion promotion course at the Glamorgan University, said: “Hayley is a talented and creative student with a real flair for fashion visualisation and photography. Her talent combined with her passion and enthusiasm for image making will serve her well in her studies and future career in the fashion industry.”
