Gwent Police Authority, the body which oversees policing in the Gwent area, has re-elected its chairwoman.

Cilla Davies has been re-appointed for the fifth year as chair.

Before becoming Chair in 2007, Mrs Davies had been a member of Gwent Police Authority for six years, including spending two years as Vice-Chair.

She was the first female chair of Gwent Police Authority and the first female chair of any police authority in Wales.

Mrs Davies said: “I am delighted to be able to continue in my role as chair of this Authority.

“I am extremely proud of the way in which our authority has dealt with and is dealing with the various challenges we face during this time, particularly the current economic situation and the uncertainty surrounding the future of police authorities.

“Alongside the Chief Constable, we make important and sometimes difficult decisions on behalf of the people of Gwent. We work hard to achieve future sustainability for our police service and ensure that a consistently high level of policing is maintained for our communities.

“I would like to thank the authority members and staff who, led by our chief executive, provide excellent support in an increasingly challenging environment.

“I am also delighted that Mr Robert Derricott has been elected to continue as Vice Chair and would like to thank him for his hard work and support.”
