Police appeal after attempted robbery in Bargoed

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:52, Tuesday February 12th, 2013.

Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery at Best One convenience store on West Street, Bargoed yesterday (Monday February 11).

The attempted robbery took place at about 4.30pm when two men entered the store armed with what is believed to be a hammer and a knife and demanded money. Two male employees thwarted their efforts but sustained facial injuries.

The two men left the shop and headed onto Hanbury Road towards the train station where they attempted to steal a stationary car. The female driver refused to get out of the vehicle and they then ran onto Bridge Street towards the viaduct.

The men are described as early 20s, white, with short hair. The first male was wearing a light grey tracksuit with a burgundy stripe on the arms and legs and a burgundy coloured gilet (body warmer with a hood), the second male was wearing grey hooded tracksuit and a dark grey jacket. At least one of the men would have had facial injuries.

The two males employees aged 19 and 20 sustained facial injuries and went to the Prince Charles Hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing for any information about the incident or anyone who recognises the descriptions not to approach the men but to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
